Who doesn’t like to get a nice tan from a fun day at the beach? Sunbathing is so satisfying, especially if you don’t usually get to soak in the sun. It’s relaxing, and the glowing tan makes it all well worth it.

However, if you’ve ever been sunburned, you know it’s not always enjoyable. A sunburn can cause pain on the surface of your skin every time you so much as move. Once the burn peels, it’s a whole new level of unpleasantness.

If you’re planning to make a trip to the beach, you must follow these tips to stay safe from the sun’s wrath.

    Use Physical Sunscreen

A good sunscreen can give you actual physical protection from harmful UV rays. It can be an umbrella, a hat, or any cloth you can use to cover yourself; make sure to cover the most vulnerable parts of your body, such as your face, chest, feet, etc.

    Use a Chemical Sunscreen

Chemical sunscreen can go a long way in protecting you against the harmful effects of UV rays. Broad-spectrum sunscreens, in particular, are especially useful in blocking out all the rays that can potentially harm you. Additionally, you can also choose an SPF level that suits you best. If you’re more susceptible to sunburns, you should select SPF 60 and over for maximum protection and remember to reapply every 90 minutes.

    Drink Lots of Water

The sun can quickly dehydrate you if you forget to up your water intake. For this reason, whenever you’re out in the sun, ensure to stay hydrated and drink lots of fluids. Simple water should be enough, but if you feel an electrolyte imbalance, you can use hydration drinks or lemonade to make up the difference.

    Take Breaks

Lastly, remember to take breaks while at the beach. Walk around, find shade, and take a break from the sun. Staying on the beach for too long without taking breaks can cause serious harm as your core temperature rises.
