The Power of Words

THE POWER OF W-O-R-D-S

By DeeJah Wynter

I have been a student of Metaphysics for over 30 years and my first lesson was about the power of the words that we speak. Words create and shape our lives and the world that we live in. They define who we are and add dimension to life and living.

The first thing that I learned is to be aware of what I say and pay particular attention to any word that I add after the “I am” statement. We all grew up hearing and repeating such statements as, “She is a pain in my neck”, “My feet are killing me”, and “I could have died when he said that!” These statements are ingrained into the fabric of the human race and we adopt them out of repetition and perhaps a need to flavor what we say with a little drama. What some people do not realize is that by saying these negative statements we are also embodying the negative meaning and negative energy of these statements.

When you add an attribute after the “I am” statement you are claiming that attribute for yourself. Even if it is a simple, “I am tired”, you are embodying being physically tired and claiming even more of the tired energy for yourself. Whatever you claim for yourself becomes your reality.

Lesson number two – the subconscious mind does not

distinguish between a joke, a ‘saying’, or sarcasm and what we really mean to say. The subconscious takes everything we say literally, as being what we want and what we believe. Hence, a statement like, “She is a pain in the neck”, will open the way for the one who said it to develop and have physical pain in their neck. Or, “He is a pain in the butt”, might open the way for the speaker to develop pain in that area of their body.

This may not happen in an instant (thank goodness), but over time these negative statements become a self- fulfilling prophecy, drawing pains and malfunctions to one’s physical body and world.

Have you ever had a day when something goes wrong first thing in the morning and you condemn the day, saying, “This is just not my day!” What happens? The more you affirm how bad the day is, the worse it gets. The mind is very powerful and it is shaped by what we say and think.

The subconscious mind is even more powerful. What we say enters our ‘thinking’ mind and travels into our subconscious mind and then gets out-pictured in our world as our experience.

Action Step 1 – Awareness: I invite the reader to engage in an experiment of becoming keenly aware of these types of negative statements. If you need assistance with this project ask the person who is around you the most to listen to you and let you know, in a non-judgmental way, whenever you make these negative statements.

If it is true that speaking and embodying negative statements brings negative energy to the speaker, then the reverse is also true. Speaking positive words and words of power brings positive energy and experiences to the one speaking them. Affirm the positive always, even when you yourself may not be convinced. By claiming it you open the way for it to be true for you.

Action Step 2 – I invite the reader to engage in an experiment of creating the most beautiful affirmation for your heart’s desire and repeat it every day, three times or more per day for 21 days. See if anything changes for the better. I dare you! If you are not sure what to say, here is one for you to try or modify, “My life is a wonderful expression of increasing joy. My life is filled with loving relationships, ever increasing health and abundant wealth, and I am happier than I have ever been before“.

Anything new first takes place in our inner world, in our mind. Let us be more proactive in pulling up the weeds of negative thinking and negative statements. Let us cultivate our inner garden with planting positive seeds of affirmations that will nurture our dreams and desires and create a life that we love completely.
