The new reality of work from home comes with a unique set of challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a massive impact on the way we live our lives and go about our daily routine. And, while the situation surrounding COVID-19 is improving, many organizations have found remote work to be beneficial in the long run and will persist with it.

Practicing self-care is more important than ever before now as female employees have to look after their mental and physical health from home. As much as we hate the idea of traveling to and from work, the communication with colleagues and the routine we’d follow during our commute was refreshing for our mental health.

However, with the new remote work trend, employees are stuck at home without much social life. Self-care is more important now than ever before, and organizations need to make sure that they follow it where possible.

In this article, we look at some self-care tips you should follow when working from home. These tips have been devised by experts in the industry and will help women take care of their physical and mental health.

    Prioritize Good Sleep

If not the complete solution, sleep is always part of the answer when talking about improving overall health and well-being. Getting your 8 hours of sleep every night is an excellent way to be attentive at work the next day and help your immune system perform well and minimize the chances of infections. Scientists and researchers also believe that sleeping is an excellent way to manage stress levels in the body. Sleep deprivation can have lasting impacts on the body and drain our energy levels.

    Recognize Signs of Stress

Self-care isn’t just about eating well and exercising regularly; it is also about identifying burnout and stress. Stress is a significant concern for people working from home during the pandemic and, more often than not, leads to an all-out burnout that significantly impacts your performance.

Signs of stress are easy to identify and should best be addressed as soon as possible. Are you swearing under pressure regularly? Are you getting more stomach aches and headaches recently? Are you worried about work all the time? If your answer to these questions is affirmative, you need to sit down and address the underlying stress behind these signs.

There are multiple ways to combat stress, especially when you are working from home. Take a walk, take some days off from work, watch your favorite TV show, invite friends over or talk to people on a conference call.

    Work Out

Spending more time working from home shouldn’t be taken as an excuse to become a couch potato and kill all forms of physical activity from your body. Staying active not just allows your body to maintain a healthy state but also reduces the risk of major illnesses and chronic health issues.

Exercise and workout sessions can release endorphins, which help you feel better and can regulate your mood. Additionally, you see a significant improvement in your attention levels and are also able to sleep better. Working out regularly also helps boost your energy levels and boosts your mood.

    Test a New Workout Technique

Most people like staying in their shell or comfort zone when it comes to working out. People stick to what they know and techniques they are aware of, rather than innovating with new ideas and finding what is best.

Since you’re staying at home, now is the time to practice new tricks and learn new ideas. Step out of your comfort zone and practice the new workout technique you were previously scared of implementing. This way, you get to know new techniques from online sessions without feeling awkward in any way.

    Eat Right for Self-Care

The food we eat can contribute to our healthy gut, immune system, and overall physical levels or aggravate weight gain and lead to diseases and ailments such as diabetes. The right food items will allow you to be productive and keep your mind up and running at all times.

Eating the right food items helps prevent inflammation, short-term memory loss, and other problems that can hinder your productivity. Some unique self-care foods include green leafy veggies, nuts, broccoli, fruits, and proteins.

    Learn to Say No

Learn to say no to others and say yes to yourself. Learning how to say no can be extremely hard for someone who isn’t accustomed to the idea of turning down people. Saying yes to loved ones in your friends and family circle can lead you to total burnout if you are already stressed and under pressure. You might have to practice this a bit, but learning how to say no to people will eventually allow you to be more self-confident.

Also, if you ever get to choose between doing something for yourself and doing something for yourself, always choose the latter.

    Go Outside for Breaks

Do not limit yourself to your home when you are working from home. Try to go outside once or twice every day for a short walk or some other activity to keep moving and maintain physical activity. Even if you are exercising at home, do not take this to be an alternative to going outside.

Going outside allows you to live in the moment and reduces stress. You get to interact with other people and also break free from the shackles of your work.

Working from home can be a struggle, but it can become manageable if you prioritize self-care and start looking after yourself. Incorporate the tips we have mentioned in your life for the best results.
