When People Procrastinate

When people procrastinate, they avoid repulsive or less desirable tasks they want to dodge doing. They think it will be simpler to finish the project they are working on if they avoid doing that job. In truth, procrastination only makes you work harder to complete the project you are trying to finish.

When you procrastinate, you lose precious time because you slow yourself down to avoid the unpleasant or less desirable job you wish to avoid. You let yourself slow down on the part of the project that you could be doing a lot faster and still do at a high level. Because you are slowing yourself down on a more practical project task, you will likely need to take away time to make them a less desirable job of the project.

Giving yourself less time to manage the less desirable task of the project is not a good habit to get into. This less desirable task will likely need more of your focus and concentration to do it well. Therefore, you may need more time to complete this part of the project. The fact that you decreased time from the overall project because of your procrastination will make you work faster on this less desirable part to make up for the lost time and still reach the project completion deadline.

As a result, you will be less able to take breaks away from the work because you procrastinated on a more accessible, more enjoyable portion of the project. This means you’ll have to work even more complex and faster on this less enjoyable portion of the project to meet your deadline, or you will miss your deadline, which can cause damage to your reputation, credibility, and profitability.

The chances are high that you will also provide lower-quality work on this less enjoyable part of the project, and the project as a whole as a result, because you have to work harder and quicker on this part of the project.

As you can see, procrastination doesn’t help to make your project more relaxed or go more efficiently; on the contrary, it causes you to have to work harder, faster, and fewer breaks than if you prevent procrastination and work diligently during the whole project so that you can spend an about equal amount of time on each portion of the project, have an optimal focus on each part and create your best work for each portion of the project.
