Learning is difficult for everyone at different times. When learning doesn’t come as easy for your child, it can be a challenging time for everyone in the family. Learning challenges often start to appear in some children who are as young as elementary school age. It is not uncommon to see some children struggle with reading, writing, and other math concepts. As a parent you can support your child and help them develop good study habits.

Despite these challenges, every child can learn and live up to their individual potential. As parents, there are behaviors and routines you can encourage to help your child be their most productive selves.

Here are some tips to help your child succeed in school:

Don’t Try to Help Your Child Study if You are Tired

As a parent, you must have energy when assisting your child with homework or a school project. Don’t wait until you are exhausted to sit down with your child. Chances are you may be short-tempered or irritable if you are overly tired when helping your child. It will be in your and your child’s best interest if you assist them with their studies when you have the energy necessary to be patient and completely attentive. Remember that your child will learn a lot more if you put yourself first to give them the attention they need.

    Have A Morning Routine

One of the most important things you can do daily to help your child succeed in school is to have a morning routine. A morning routine consisting of getting up, washing their face, and brushing their teeth lays the foundation for them to succeed in school. A consistent morning routine gives your child a road map to follow.

An excellent way for your child to start the day is with a breakfast full of protein and fiber before classes start at school. One of the best options for breakfast is scrambled eggs with turkey sausage, avocado toast with egg whites, or fresh fruit from the local farmer’s market.

Another component of a great morning routine is to leave enough time in your child’s schedule to interject some fun. Brain-boosting games like crossroad puzzles, Sudoku, or even Uno are a great way to get your youngster thinking strategically, all while having fun simultaneously.

    Do Homework Every Day

One of the most important things you can do to help your child succeed in school is to have them do their homework daily. When your children do their homework daily, they begin to understand that it is important to work hard. This is a recipe of success they will use for a lifetime. Besides this, having your child do their homework daily means they’re building good study habits that will serve them well throughout their school career.

Create a Dedicated Study Space for School Work

Creating a dedicated study space at home is another way to help your child succeed when they are in the classroom. If your child does not have a specific place where they can study independently and freely, they may stop studying altogether.

It is also vital that your child’s study space allows them to focus and limits the distractions they will experience. Help your child identify an area in the house where they can work without interruption. Make sure other family members are respectful when your child is in their area and allow them to study. Creating a space with minimal distractions will help your child focus on learning and productivity.

Encourage Your Child to Not Fear Testing

One of the best ways to help your child succeed in school is to help them not to develop a fear of taking tests or quizzes. Remind your child are being tested on information they have already learned. Tests and quizzes can actually be confidence builders. Help your child develop test-taking skills by giving practice spelling tests or math problems.

The important thing to remember is that you always have an opportunity to help your child. You can help by having a routine and always being available to provide help, support, and encouragement.
