I’m a massive fan of “NEW.”

Opportunity, ideas, and experiences are what make life worth living. Making sure that these ideas work in your clothing and accessories is essential as well!

Many concepts offer change to our lives in this millennium, things that are easy and difficult. Changes in commerce, politics, communication, and environment are only a few of the changes we need to embrace.

I’m here to suggest ideas in visual and commerce, but the most significant change I recommend is that we all notice we need to be responsible and act accordingly.

PLUS SIZE IN FASHION AND MEDIA

Plus-size models or “real size” models are out here in full effect, allowing people to feel as if they are part of the conversation for fashion. It’s time for the rest of the world to catch up. Many women strive to be thin, but there are just as many women out there who love how they look right now and need clothing for the real-life they live. Whether light or full, people deserve wardrobe options that address their happy bodies or dress their bodies to make them happy.

Gone are the days where we focused on seeing size 2-4 as perfection. There needs to be room and a market for all women to feel glamorous and people to feel beautiful in their attire.

Even with this in mind, there is still so much that needs to be done. There is an opportunity for the real men and women’s market. We need more lingerie, loungewear, bathing suits,  workwear, and casual clothing. More opportunities for formal attire and basics, which travel well, are still available.  If you haven’t gotten my point, there is always a great need for clothing catering to women/people of all sizes.

FOCUS ON COLOR-HUMANKIND

We’re starting to see more people of color on the runway/fashion shows. YES! Bring it On!  For far too long, so many people have controlled and contributed to the narrative of people being a particular ethnicity to participate in fashion shows, magazines, and television. While things are changing, there is still this idea we see, what is considered “the norm” and ideas outside what we are used to viewing are being noticed and applauded.

Please be aware, while we are witnessing this change, it doesn’t mean all problems are solved. It will only be when it isn’t a thought or a need for attention, and it’s considered the norm where things will indeed be changed.

There are still opportunities for make-up colors and hair products for people of color, making the company research the individual and not the other way around. If you want our dollar, please consider us in the narrative. To make the consumer feel like an intruder instead of a guest is still too familiar.

ALTERNATIVES IN FASHION

One of the most significant narratives in fashion is our ability to think outside the box. The box is boring! We’re always looking for ways to create change, add onto the table, or make it an entirely different shape; even asking questions such as:

“Why is there a box in the first place?”

Recently, we’ve started to see alternative ideas follow in a product, advertising, and runway. The use of those with special needs such as prosthetic limbs and wheelchair accommodations coming down the track are included in the narration. Dolls reflect people, which are not one concept of beauty and gender “normality” being challenged and inclusive of all.

There are more questions and answers toward gender assignments and precisely what that means to each individual. Our goal should be to let each person understand that they are included in the conversation of fashion. If we want to cater to diverse communities for commerce, we need to be aware of said community.

A RESPONSIBILITY TO WEAR PEOPLE WHO SHOW ETHICS

I had the pleasure of seeing our “Forever First Lady,” Michelle Obama, and she spoke about wearing people that matter. She discussed the importance of being mindful of not only the clothing but also the person behind the garment and for what they stand.

Designers who show ethics, treat their staff with care and consideration, and have backgrounds that have a positive impact are as important as the clothing itself. It’s so important and something we all need to pay attention to.

We cannot always be aware of everyone’s mood, attitude, and personality, but we can focus on things such as carbon footprinting. Despite what some say, I am a firm believer that climate change is real, and it’s our responsibility as human beings to be conscious of it and offer replacement whenever we can.

Upcycling, Recycling, and Zero-Waste have become essential ideas in fashion and something to be commended. For far too long, manner has contributed to waste and pollution. With this in mind fashion should also be responsible for changing thinking and helping to clean up our mess, thus recycling: clothing and accessories made from other items such as plastic are woven into the fabric, upcycling: clothing and accessories which were once product being made into an entirely new piece of clothing and zero waste concepts: items that support the use of all materials with no scraps left behind.

Please support designers who think of what it looks like on you and what it does to Mother Earth. If each person puts more conscious effort into purchasing items that were good for our planet, companies would have no choice but to follow suit.

WHAT TO DO

Many times, we are focused on your appearance and details which make your appearance, “Put Together”extraordinary. Consider each of the points listed as well as so many ideas for which we need to be still aware and make yourself the Catalyst for Change.

If you keep each of the mentioned ideas in mind when shopping, offering you hard-earned money and encouraging your friends and family to do the same, you can be the person that offers what is most important in life—Compassion, Ethics, and Responsibility.

Happy Growth.♥️
